Retreat Agenda
Meet Our Speakers

This year’s retreat theme is Rooted in Christ. Life tempts us to believe that our value is rooted in roles and relationships, but that’s shaky ground in changing seasons and circumstances, causing our sense of self to waver.

Drawing from the book of Ephesians and linked to life experiences, our speakers will guide us to discover the security and boundless beauty of our identity in Christ. Join us as we explore God’s loving design for us to be blessed, connected, strengthened and filled in Christ. Together, we can remain unshaken and encouraged to walk in the fullness of who we are, “Rooted in Christ”!

Join the women of IBC as we take time to refocus on God’s design for our lives. IBC’s own--Wendy Blackwell, Enid Walker, Kathy Holley, and Deshua Joyce--have four sessions ready to help us walk away blessed, connected, strengthened, and walking in Christ!

Ephesian 3:17b-20 (NIV): And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.

Wendy Blackwell was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. Wendy and Jay Blackwell spent many years moving around with the military and reported to Virginia for a three-year tour, eighteen years ago! Immanuel Bible Church is the main reason why they “sank roots in Virginia.”

Wendy’s Testimony: “Having grown up in the church and having the privilege of believing parents, I had heard the truths of God’s Word often as a child. At the age of 9, I understood the gravity of my sin as well as the resulting consequence and knew that only by trusting in what Christ accomplished through his life, death, burial, and resurrection could I be deemed right before a holy God. While on a mission trip during college, I was convicted by the passage in Matthew where Christ tells the scribes and Pharisees that they have it backwards. They are focused on being outwardly clean rather than understanding that the outward cleanliness is merely a result of an inward cleansing. This truth was comforting and freeing as I realized that my perfectionistic, people-pleasing, performance-based tendencies were all a reflection of my self-sufficiency. Surrendering to Christ’s inner working on my nature helped me move toward doing all things with excellence to please and honor Him. Thankfully, I am still learning and growing!”

Enid Walker was born in Winston-Salem, NC, and later moved to Raleigh, NC. She served on the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ for 16 years before coming to Immanuel Bible Church. She later rejoined Cru in 2009 and served on the Significance Project Leadership Team. She met her late husband, JT Walker, when they were freshman in college.

Enid’s Testimony: “I began my relationship with Jesus in October of my freshman year in college. I had grown up in a Christian home and had heard the stories of Jesus all my life. I believed they were true but saw no connection to my own life. After someone shared 1 John 1:9 with me I understood that if I confessed my sins, Jesus forgave my sins and cleansed me from all unrighteousness. The stories I heard about Jesus as a child made better sense. I trusted Jesus as my savior and His forgiveness of sin.”

Kathy Holley moved to Virginia when she was 10, and God used her parents and four other families to start Immanuel Bible Church. She met and married Steve Holley at Immanuel, where God called them into full time youth ministry, family ministry, and now Steve is Pastor of Ministries. Steve has served as a pastor at IBC for 36 years.

Kathy’s Testimony: “I came to Christ as a child when my mom explained what was written in a gospel pamphlet she was giving a friend. I keep at my desk a photo of the bench where I prayed with my mom, asking Jesus to be my Savior—a great reminder of God’s gift of grace to me!”

Deshua Joyce was born in a small town in New York. Tom Joyce, Pastor of Discipleship and Family at Immanuel Bible Church, is her husband. She was a high school English teacher for several years, and also worked with children with disabilities.

Deshua’s Testimony: “As a family we went to church but God’s plan of salvation was never preached. At the age of 24 I heard for the first time that Jesus wanted a personal relationship with me. In a very tiny church, I accepted His call.”

All women High School age and up are welcome. Please invite your friends, family, and neighbors -- all women are welcome! (We will not have childcare. We love children but this is a women-only event – nursing infants are welcome though.)

We would love this opportunity to get to know you better, and we know a lot of ladies who feel the same. It’s easy to find a potential roommate. Here are two ways to find a roommate:
1. Ask your designated spring retreat organizer in your Adult Bible Fellowship (ABF).
2. Ask for assistance at the Women’s Spring Retreat information table in the Atrium after service.

There are three options for registration beginning December 2nd:

  1. Fill out the form below to register online.
  2. Meet us after service at our table in the Atrium to register in person.
  3. Go to the IBC Bookstore to register.

Don’t forget that the early bird registration rates end February 4!

We have a lot of great activities planned for free times, but you can also use this time on your own.

Here are a few examples of the activities we have planned:

  • “Not Your Mother’s Aerobics” Class: This is a step class, without the step!
  • Pilates/Yoga
  • Massage therapist: 30 min or 1 hour massage times will be available for booking from Friday to Saturday night. Check back for more information to book a session. (This activity involves a separate fee.)
  • Crafting: Join Kim Hill as she shows us how to make tea towels.
  • Karaoke
  • Games in the ballroom
  • Photo booth
  • Morning runs, and more!

Don’t forget your Bible, notebook, pen, an open mind, and an open heart.

Plan for three days and two nights at the hotel. Grab a swimsuit if you would like to go swimming, the hotel pool will remain open for us.

Don’t forget workout clothes if you would like to join the aerobics class, morning runs, or workout on your own.

Casual! Jeans are fine, dresses are fine -- whatever makes you most comfortable.

This year we are offering an option for ladies who would like to commute to the retreat. Take advantage of our “Commuter Option” at registration, and be sure to join us in the hospitality suite near the conference rooms before and after the sessions each day. The suite will have snacks, refreshments, and comfortable seating for you to relax and meet up with other ladies from the conference.

Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday and dinner on Saturday are included with the registration fee. Lunches are open for you to make your own plans. We will also have dessert receptions following both the evening sessions.

Be sure to join us in the hospitality suite near the conference rooms before and after the sessions each day. The suite will have snacks, refreshments, and comfortable seating for you to relax and meet up with other ladies from the conference.

You will receive an e-mail confirmation after your registration has been processed. Final event details will be emailed a week or so before the retreat.
