Coffee House: Finding Beauty in the Brokenness

Friday, February 1, 2019
(snow date – February 15)
7:00 PM, Atrium

“We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.”
Psalm 33:20-22 NIV

While it’s freezing outside, come and enjoy the warmth of our Coffeehouse. The night will include the perfect blend of gourmet desserts, a coffee bar, classical music, and sweet fellowship!

The coffeehouse will also feature the personal story of our own Karen Barnes. You will be blessed by her journey.

We will be treated to relaxing, beautiful music by talented musicians from Immanuel. We will also hear about the work being done at Assist Pregnancy Center and how they strive to encourage, educate, and empower women and men with resources and hope for their future.

Tickets are only $5- so grab one for yourself and a friend! Here’s your chance to treat that neighbor, co-worker or new friend and pour a cup of friendship into her life.

Tickets are on sale online and in the Immanuel Christian Bookstore soon. Tickets purchased online can be picked up at the will call table that evening or received ahead of time through the mail (please contact the Women’s Ministry office at 703-813-1955 to mail).

FAQS

What will the night look like?

This will not be a big, programmed event but rather a relaxed evening set in the Atrium where you will have time to enjoy conversations with other women as well as a delicious coffee bar and gourmet treats. It will include instrumental music from women in the Immanuel family. The evening will also spotlight Assist Pregnancy Center and we will be enjoy hearing from Karen Barnes as she shares how God brought beauty from brokenness in her life.

What is Assist Pregnancy Center?

Assist Pregnancy Center exists to promote life through Christ to those vulnerable to abortion. Who is Karen Barnes?

Karen is wife of 12 years to Cason, mom to Ellanie & Addy, and is passionate about encouraging women to live authentically with joy.

Karen formerly worked in marketing at International Justice Mission, the world’s leading anti-slavery organization. After a journey through infertility, God blessed the Barnes with their twin girls 3 years ago and Karen chose to stay at home with them. But she has been grateful to be an Ambassador with Noonday Collection, where she’s able to meld her passions of global justice issues, empowering women, and activating others to make a difference in the world… while trying to balance mom life.

She loves the quote from Frederick Buechner, “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”

Who can attend?

Coffeehouse: Finding Beauty in the Brokenness is open to all women, young and old. We encourage each woman attending to bring a friend. Teenage women through Grand Life are welcome to attend.

How much does it cost to attend?

Admission is only $5. With tickets so reasonable, you can grab one for a friend! This is a great opportunity to invite that neighbor, co-worker or friend that you’ve been wanting to bring to church, but you haven’t found the right event or the courage to do so.

What kind of beverage/food will be available at the Coffeehouse?

What better way to warm up and enjoy music and conversation and then to enjoy a fabulous coffee bar with delicious cookies (gluten free will be available also.) It will be sure to warm you and your friend right up! And in addition to wonderful hot coffee drinks, we will also have yummy French Iced Coffee.

How long will the evening last?

The event will run from approximately 7:00pm until 9:30pm.

Will childcare be available?

No, unfortunately childcare will not be provided during this time.

What if my guest is not a Christian?

Well first - great job for extending the invitation! We encourage these invites. This is a great opportunity to give them a glimpse of the hope and beauty of life in Christ. Our theme of beauty from brokenness because of our redemption in Christ will be woven throughout the testimonies, music, and conversation. It is a relaxing evening with no convictions of any sort - just some amazing music and delicious coffee!
